Emerging artist Amelia Ford works within the confines of traditional still life painting–masterfully manipulating oils to capture the shine of an apple, or the folds of bright silk, or light through broken glass–but it’s in the composition of her subjects, rather than the items themselves, where the deeper meaning lies.

Learn to Carve an Eating Spoon

In this 6 hour workshop, we will take a deep dive into the world of green wood spoon carving. We’ll cover all the skills you’ll need to go out into the woods identify, cut, cleave, axe, carve, and finish a beautiful and ergonomic piece of functional wooden ware.

Lost Buildings with Greg Nesteroff

While Nelson is well known for its many heritage buildings, it has also lost many to fire and demolition. Local historian and author Greg Nesteroff visits the Nelson Museum on Sunday, February 23 at 1pm to present a fascinating slideshow that will look at 40 such structures and their stories, from the opera house to the Strathcona Hotel to the Kerr Apartments.

Want to learn and practice dancing Argentine Tango? We host a weekly mini-lesson and practica at Christie Lee’s Hall in Fairview. The guided portion from 7:30-8:15 has a different host and topic each week (check our Facebook page for host and topic announcements). We have an open practice after the lesson until 9:30pm. Dancers of all levels are welcome!

Lebanese Stew: Kafta bi Batata

This traditional Lebanese dish is popularly made with spiced meatballs and potatoes into a delicious stew. Rahul Joshi will take students through the process of making authentic Kafta bi Batata from start to finish as well as Lebanese hummus, tzatziki and chili garlic dip served with pita to accompany the stew.
