11.9km (driving on dirt road) | Spring/Summer/Fall.
This old fire lookout is accessible by car. You can drive right to the top for breathtaking views of Kootenay Lake or follow the 2km loop trail below the lookout for more viewpoints.
This is also the access for the legendary downhill mountain bike trail The Monster.
To find the main access road for Mt Buchanan (from Kaslo) head west on highway #31A for 11 km to the Blue Ridge Forest Services Road, then follow signs. Follow the main road for 11.9 km to the lookout, staying right at the 7.0 km junction.
There are also several mountain biking trails you can access if you head north (from Kaslo) and turn onto Branch 7 Forest Service Road. Kaslo Trail maps can be purchased at several Kaslo businesses or the Nelson and Kaslo Visitor Centres. You can also see a trail map of Trailforks.
