Music
Rock to jazz, folk to electronic; the Nelson & Kootenay Lake region has been a hotbed of incredible and varied music for years. From festival grounds to intimate theatres, there's something somewhere for anyone to enjoy.
Rooted In Culture Video
Hailing from the remote cultured community of Argenta in North Kootenay Lake, nationally renowned musicians Moontricks deftly blend electronic and folk to create a sound that is truly their own. We caught up with Sean Rodman and learned how our region influences him and his music, and what it means to him to be a Kootenay artist. Explore the region and its people in Our Place video series.
Nightlife
Around Kootenay Lake, the fun doesn't stop once the sun goes down. DJ sets and live bands can be enjoyed many nights of the week in Nelson at Red Light Ramen, Pitchfork, The Royal, Finley's Bar & Grill, the Library Lounge, Spiritbar and the Black Cauldron. If you enjoy dancing to electronic music, then Bloom Nightclub is the place to be. If you head further up the lake, the Kaslo Hotel & Pub, Buddy's Pizza, and Bluebelle Bistro in Kaslo also feature live music. There is a summer music series in Kaslo that brings local artists to you, on the streets and in various venues. Not to be missed if you are a music lover, like us, looking to discover new sounds and artists.
Festivals
The region is home to the world-famous Shambhala music festival near Salmo, and other great music festivals such as Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival, Nelson International Mural Festival, and Tiny Lights Festival in Ymir.
